8/26/2020 Parent Meeting Recap

Thank you to those of you that were able to join us last night. The meeting was to clarify things needed for band, performances, paying band fees, class participation for the different school option, tryout schedule, and practice schedule.

All students will participate during the time of the band period that they are assigned to. That means that all virtual students can either login or come to school for class during the class period they are assigned, and need to be prepared to participate with the class, even option 3 needs to login at their assigned times. Things needed for class; black binder, plastic sheet protectors, pencil, face mask, water bottle, white hand towel (with your name on it), instrument, and a fold-up music stand (available on amazon for as little as $10). Instrument students must each have a stand, as sharing will not be allowed. All wind instrument students will be issued 2 instrument face masks to be worn while playing their instruments. They are responsible for washing and bringing them to school each day. Students do not need to bring their instruments for the first day. Tryouts will take place the first weeks of school for freshman and new incoming students for placement. If you want to be in Jazz Band then you need to request with counselor ASAP.

The uniform fitting day has been changed to a virtual format, to be lauched soon. Once it is ready, instructions will be sent out on how to complete the process and submit payment.

Only 50 students can perform at each football game, and will preform in the stands with halftime off. At this time no spectators are allowed at the football games. A link was distributed to complete a survey about game participation. Practices will be Tuesday and Thursdays from 6-815pm, but at this time it is unknown who will be practicing at which time. First football game is 9/25, and there will be 3 home games. We are not participating at away games.

All students, including virtual, must complete athletic clearance before school begins. If you have already completed clearance, then log back in and sign new COVID waiver.

Summer Update #2

Good evening,

As you all know, things are constantly changing this year.  We are in a holding pattern while we await further directions from CCPS and Gulf Coast High School.  All band activities have been postponed for the time being.  At this time, school is scheduled to begin Monday August 31st.  We have postponed our Uniform Fitting day until closer to the start of school.  Our next scheduled parent meeting will be Tuesday August 25th at 7pm via WebEx.  At that time we should have answers to the questions about the coming year.  Thank you all for being part of the Gulf Coast Band family.
